Post-production techniques and processes (U3: P5)

Learning Outcome 4 (U3): Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief. 

Front cover and Double page spread:

After designing the final front cover for my magazine “Wrapped Up” there are many aspects which went well such as the clear defined title.  The bright yellow writing alongside the black text stands out and makes it clear and bold. Another strength of the cover are the cover lines on the left side.  These give the reader a brief idea of what the magazine is focusing on before starting to read inside.  The cover lines are also a positive aspect as the bright yellow and red colours under the text grabs out attention and highlight the important facts about the magazines content.  

The main image on the cover which is the model is also another positive aspect of our magazine “Wrapped Up”, as he links into our target audience of 16-22 year olds as the model looks our target age and our readers will relate to him.

However, some aspects which did not go according to plan when producing

the front cover was the black text against the black background. This was because the text was clear to see and confused the reader as the writing was lost in the background and unclear. This was improved by changing the colour of the font which did not blend into the background. 

 Another aspect of the magazine which did not go according to plan which I would improve on were the highlights behind some of the writing. This distracted the reader and takes their eyes away from the main focus of the image as well as some of the text. I would improve this by choosing a lighter colour for the highlights or by separating them out slightly so the colour would not be a distraction.

For the double page spread which is called “Zinky Wayne Finally Speaks” there were a few positive features on the front cover such as the clear background.  This graffiti background isn’t noisy and is the first aspect of the double page which the readers notices when reading the magazine. 

This is because the colour and patterns are vibrant and lively therefore the readers find this interesting and stimulating to look at.  Furthermore, another positive aspect of the magazine is the positioning of the model. This is because the image was taken from a perspective angle which means looking up. As a result we can clearly see the models facial expression creating a tone connecting him to the readers.

There are a few aspects which I could have improved on.  One is the highlight under my question and answer.  The white background doesn’t blend into the background and is a distraction and as well as that the white background doesn’t incorporate any of the colours in the background.  This can be rectified by changing the colour of the highlight as by not using one the text colours it doesn’t look prominent and therefore the readers may struggle to read the text.  Moreover, the negative space on the left side of the model could be improved by adding some cover lines as right now it just looks like empty space and therefore by adding cover lines it would create some depth.
